This morning I finally gave up on my plan to finish tidying up before I got the sewing machine out, cleared the dining table by piling the contents elsewhere, and got my machine, half-finished projects, and fabric out. With help, obviously.
The first thing I made when I bought the machine back in February was a travel jewellery organiser, from this tutorial. My mum saw it and admired it, and it was her birthday last week, so I decided to make her one, using some Moda fabric with a co-ordinating check for lining.
It’s a bit fiddly to start with, lots of sewing in circles, which isn’t my speciality, not even on the Bernina, but it wasn’t too bad, and one I’d put the ribbons in and pulled it tight it looked very cute.
This is the inside, there are eight little side pockets for necklaces or ear-rings, as well as the main central part.
Now long time readers may remember that way back in March I sewed two panels of squares to make a tote bag (and eagle-eyed readers may recognise them from my blog header). I even did most of the quilting, but then decided that they’d look nice as cushions instead. And promptly put them away in a pile of stuff and didn’t touch them again until today. I did the last bit of quilting, and after a little confusion with the zips, turned them into cushion covers, probably to be used in the conservatory.
The backs are a single fabric from the same Moda range (I think it was Eden). They measure 16” square, I’ve used 18” cushion pads to try and stop them going flat as soon as they’re used.
Another half done project that’s been hanging around for a while was a lovely piece of fabric I wove using Noro Kureyon, back in July. So I fished it out and turned it into a bag, using my usual method – I’ve pretty much got it off pat now, so it didn’t take long.
Sadly the beautiful orange part of the fabric ended up on the bottom of the bag, but it’s still pretty.
Last but not least, I’ve been wanting a key-ring for my new conservatory key, so I made a quick heart-shaped one with some more of the Moda fabric I used to make the cushion covers. I stuffed it lightly, pulled the two halves together in the centre, made a crochet chain with embroidery floss, and did a stem stitch edging.
Now I just need to clear up the chaos I’ve left in my wake….
I love your jewellery organiser – just the sort of thing I’m looking for. Thanks so much. Your weaving with the Kureyon is stunning.
Lovely projects. They’ve all turned out perfectly.
I’ve never seen a jewellery organiser like that and it does look really useful.
I’ve bookmarked the tutorial so just as soon as I master sewing non-straight seams I’ll make one for myself.
Beautiful!! I am totally infatuated by that Noro bag! Such pretty colours, and really professionally finished looking, like everything I sew isn’t :)
the cushions are also gorgeous… awesome work
They’re all lovely especially the Noro bag
I’m so very jealous of your amazing weaving and bag-making skills.
My mom has made those travel jewelry organizers. They are so cute, and I am a proud owner of one! Great job!
I love your Noro bag and have an odd ball in my stash that would be perfect. How wide was your loom warped? The proportions are nice.
