I sewed up my Primrose top in the sunshine on Tuesday, and wore it for the first time on Wednesday. I was planning a cream coloured ribbon, but I didn’t have any, so I pinched this purple ribbon out of an old cardigan, and I’m glad I did, I really like it.
As mentioned previously, I didn’t enjoy knitting this, but now it’s finished, I’m actually very pleased with it! And it got compliments at work, with one girl asking to borrow the pattern and saying that she was going to start knitting again to make it.
The pattern was written with the front and back the same, but I’ll probably wear it over a t-shirt most of the time, to save having to wash it every time I wear it, and a V-back would look silly over a t-shirt, so I changed it for a normal one.
Mollie wandered round my feet wailing until I picked up her and took her photo too. She does like the limelight. You can see here why the first photo is headless – I’ve been too busy sewing to do anything with my hair or put make-up on!
The details – the pattern is Primrose, from Louisa Harding’s Ianthe book, and the yarn is Debbie Bliss Amalfi. I made the 38.25” size, and used nine balls of yarn. I might make it again, but I think I’d experiment with a normal cast on and a crocheted picot edging instead of the picot cast on – I nearly lost the will to live doing that! And I wouldn’t use such a splitty yarn. In fact, I won’t be using the Amalfi again, I really didn’t get on with it, probably because I’m a tight knitter.
so pretty and summery! the colour really suits you. And i agree, the ribbon is the perfect finishing touch…
Thank you! The ribbon was one of those serendipitous moments that come along occasionally :)
It’s a very pretty top – I do like the shape of it!
And it’s useful for hiding lumps and bumps ;)
ooooh that is lovely and the purple ribbon was a stroke of genius x
That’s beautiful, as is your quilting in your last post. Mollie is so “look at me!!”.
Nice job!
VERY lovely! I thought it a delightful pattern also, but hearing all your angst sort of put me off a bit. Seeing these pics now….I truly think I will make one!! Love your purple ribbon!! AND hearing you say it was all worth it….is helping me get thru the last half inch of a ruffle I will never do again on an HRH Kate shawl test knit!! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Thank you! I think to be honest that most of my angst was down to the yarn, not the pattern. In something less splitty it would be much easier! Although the picot cast on is going to be tedious in any yarn…
I’m still thinking about a ruffled shawl a la Kate, but the thought of the ruffle is putting me off!
It looks great on you! Love the purple ribbon too. :)
this top is so lovely on you! i especially like the pop of color you added with the purple ribbon. and kitty looks very pleased with the sweater, as well. :)
I think it must be the yarn – I’m making it at the mo in Louisa Harding Ondine and it’s a very enjoyable knit.
