Whatever happened to your __________?
Write about the fate of a past knitting project. Whether it be something that you crocheted or knitted for yourself or to give to another person. An item that lives with you or something which you sent off to charity.
There are a lot of different aspects to look at when looking back at a knitting project and it can make for interesting blogging, as much of the time we blog about items recently completed, new and freshly completed. It is not so often that we look back at what has happened to these items after they have been around for a while.
I’ve struggled with this one a bit, the vast majority of things I’ve knitted were for me, and get worn from time to time, some more than others, but I couldn’t think of anything outstanding to write about. So I went upstairs, and on the bed I saw this -
My second Luna Moth Shawl, made back in September 2007, one of my first lace projects. I did three shawls in fingering weight, then this one in Noro Cash Iroha, for a more snuggly version.

And thinking about it, it’s probably one of my most used knits. I wrap it round my shoulders in the evenings if it’s chilly, but I most wear it in bed, when I’m reading before going to sleep. And if it’s a bit draughty round my neck during the night, I reach for it and snuggle up in it.
This is it on the bed for scale – it reaches both sides of a double bed. The blocking’s worn off a bit over the years, and it’s pilled a little, but it’s not wearing too badly, considering.
And any excuse for a cat photo.
Hmm, I’m getting tempted by the idea of another aran-weight shawl…
Lovely shawl and it is always nice to read about a knit that gets a lot of use.
And Hi Kitty! Hi Kitty Kitty!
Oh, I love the idea of a shawl for snuggling in bed with. I keep wanting to knit shawls but they don’t really suit me… This I’m totally on board with! *heads to ravelry to find a pattern*
I love the kitty picture!
I am very cold at night now too and made myself a sweater that I call my “jammie sweater”
thanks for sharing :o)
Sweet kitty photo – and I, too, have gone to Ravelry for the pattern. :) I just finished my first lace shawl and love the idea of using it cuddled up in bed.

lovely!
shawls are just so incredibly versatile and useful. Stupidly, I held off making one for years because I didn’t think I was a shawl kind of person. But it turns out it is really easy to wear one and you don’t actually have to be in some kind of BBC Sunday evening costume drama. My Aestlight is currently my most used item, I wrap it round my neck every morning before I get on my bike – couldn’t have survived the winter without it!
I’m a bit wary of knitting shawls, as I don’t wear them (or at least I haven’t so far.) I think it’s because I don’t quite know how to wear them, and feel a bit daft! Yours looks rather snuggly, perfect for bedtime cosiness.
Lovely, lovely shawl and kitty! I’ve crocheted one in cotton, but not knitted one yet…
That cat picture was definitely worth putting in there. I bet I’m not the only one who broke out into a great big smile! And the shawl is lovely, too :)
That shawl looks incredibly cozy. I love wearing sweaters and other knitted goodness to bed since I’m *always* cold.
That is a beautiful shawl! I’m so glad to hear that you actually use yours instead of just admiring it from afar.
